Company history
Dan Toelke started building custom traditional bows in 1996 from his shop in Siren, Wisconsin, and has since become one of the most respected names in traditional archery. What began as a passion for bowhunting has grown into a business known for producing some of the finest longbows and recurves available.
Each Toelke bow is handmade by Dan himself, ensuring that every piece meets his exacting standards. He works with premium materials—exotic hardwoods, carefully selected fiberglass, and quality hardware—to create bows that are as beautiful as they are functional. The attention to detail shows in everything from the smoothness of the draw to the clean lines of the finished product.
The brand’s reputation rests on several core models. The Whip longbow is probably their best-known design, favored by hunters and target shooters alike for its forgiving nature and consistent performance. The Pika offers a shorter option for those who need maneuverability in tight spots, while the Chinook recurve delivers speed without sacrificing the smooth draw that Toelke bows are known for.
What sets Toelke apart is the personal touch. When you order a bow, you’re working directly with Dan to specify draw weight, length, wood choices, and finish details. This isn’t a catalog purchase—it’s a collaboration to build a bow that fits you specifically. The wait time reflects this approach; these aren’t bows sitting on a shelf, they’re made to order.
Traditional archers who shoot Toelke bows often talk about how quiet they are and how little hand shock they produce. These characteristics come from careful design and quality construction, not gimmicks or add-ons. The bows perform well right out of the box and tend to last for decades with proper care.
Based in the quiet woods of northern Wisconsin, Toelke Traditional Archery remains a small operation focused on quality over quantity. Dan’s commitment to building each bow himself means production is limited, but it also means that when you get a Toelke bow, you’re getting something made by someone who genuinely cares about the craft.

I waited 14 months for my Toelke Whip, and the moment I started shooting it, I knew it was worth every day—the draw is buttery smooth, it’s whisper quiet, and I’ve taken three deer with it without a single string jump. Dan built exactly what I asked for, and this bow will be with me for life.

I’ve been shooting traditional bows for over 20 years, and my Toelke Chinook is hands down the best bow I’ve ever owned—fast, smooth, and deadly accurate right out of the gate. Dan took the time to get every detail right, from the draw weight to the wood selection, and three seasons later it still shoots like the day it arrived.

After shooting compound bows for a decade, I wanted something simpler and more connected to the hunt, so I ordered a Toelke Pika and haven’t looked back. The compact design is perfect for the thick timber I hunt, and the accuracy and quietness of this bow has made me a better archer and a more successful hunter.
